Classic Aire Care is here to help you 24/7/365, but if we can help you save a little money, we would love to guide you through some common problems that you may be able to fix yourself! Often times the answer to these issues are fairly simple and easy to fix. Hey, if we can save you a little money in the process, that’s all the better! Simply follow the instructions below, and solve 6 of our most common heating, air conditioning and plumbing problems. Don’t forget. If you find yourself in a bigger pickle than you thought, we’re just a phone call away.

Air Conditioner & Furnace

Dirty Filter / Obstructed Filter
If your heating or cooling system is not operating like you think it should, check to make sure the filter is not clogged or dirty. Filters should be changed regularly depending on the type of filter you use. 1 inch filters are not designed to last very long. These should be changed every 1-3 months.

Batteries in Thermostat Dead
If your system doesn’t seem to be working at all, before anything else, make sure to check the batteries in the thermostat.

Reset Breaker
If the system isn’t heating or cooling, check the breaker for the air conditioner. If the breaker is tripped, flip it back. Keep in mind a tripped breaker could be an indication of a larger issue. If the system is not heating, make sure the power switch on the side of the furnace has not been turned of. The switch looks like a typical light switch in a residential home.

Plumbing

Jammed Garbage Disposal
If your garbage disposal isn’t working, and you just hear a humming noise, then you may have a jammed disposal. You will need the service wrench that came with your disposal. On the bottom and center of the disposal, there is a hole that particular wrench will fit into. Insert the wrench and manually spin until you’ve freed up the jam. If the reset button is popped out, push back in then check operation of disposal.

Water Heater Pilot Light Out
If you run out of hot water quickly, you may need to relight you water heater pilot light. Locate the gas valve on the front of the water heater. Turn the gas valve to “Pilot Setting” and push it down while looking inside the burner assembly chamber. Continue to press the pilot light ignition button until the pilot lights. Continue to hold down pilot setting button for one minute, and then turn back to the “On Setting”.

Watch the video below to learn how to tell if your water heater needs repair.

Leaky Shut Off Valve
If you see water on the floor or on the base of your sink cabinet, you may have a shut off valve leaking from the handle. Tighten the packing nut approximately ¼ turn with wrench.
