Does a Home Warranty Cover Air Conditioners and Heaters?
Some people have home warranties to protect against problems with the appliances in their home. This is a different coverage than homeowner’s insurance which is often required to obtain a mortgage. Instead, this is a separate policy that homeowners can get to protect against unforeseen issues in the home. And if you have one, you can often get a new air conditioner or heater at little to no cost (depending on your specific coverage).
In many cases, if your air conditioner or heater stops working, the homeowner would notify their warranty company. The homeowner will then notify a licensed HVAC company to come and look at the unit. The homeowner is typically responsible for paying for that service call, but any further repairs or replacements will be paid for by the warranty company.
It should be noted that some warranty companies require the homeowner to use a pre-chosen service company. Be sure to speak with your warrant company about the freedom you have to choose the heating and cooling professionals you want to perform repairs. Otherwise you may inadvertently void your warranty.
