Second floor furnace: 4991: customer stated that he replaced the batteries last week because the thermostat display was blank. thermostat was set at 62 and running a preset program. I turned up the thermostat and set to ?hold?. Furnace came on and ran OK. First floor furnace: 4707: furnace was locked out and flashing code 6: pressure switch fault. I reset furnace control board to test operation. Furnace tried several times to light before finally coming on. Furnace Control board was acting in an erratic manner that seemed unrelated to any pressure switch issue. Clean and check 2 humidifiesr, replace pads, checked water flow and drain. I found first floor humidifier solenoid valve not allowing water flow. I replaced under parts only warranty.
Cleaned & checked gas furnace. Inspected heat exchanger & flue venting. cleaned burners & flame sensor. Checked voltage & amp draw of motors. Test capacitor. Replaced air filter. Tested thermostat batteries. Blower: 7.0A . Inducer: 2.22A . Gas pressure: 3.62 inches water column. Temperature rise: 62 . Supply: 135w/2 zones . Return: 73 .
Cleaned & checked gas furnace. Inspected heat exchanger & flue venting. cleaned burners & flame sensor. Checked voltage & amp draw of motors. 5.8A. Test capacitor. Found blower run capacitor weak: 32%low. Replaced capacitor and tested amp draw. Check temperature rise. 55. Replaced air filter. Blower:5.8A . Inducer: 1.0A . Gas pressure: 3.42 inches water column. Temperature rise: 55 . Supply: 129 . Return: 74 . I found humidifier (installed by others recently) is not coming on. Customer is calling installer to look at. Complaint: living area not getting cool enough in the summer. I recommended adjusting mixing damper and replacing registers with ones with more free area.
Moisture condensing on electric water heater access panels. I checked for leaks at all threaded fittings and found none. Moisture is probably left over from water dripping onto water heater when ball valve was installed for humidifiers. Top of water heater is slightly concave. I checked expansion tank pressure. I tested upper and lower element: voltage: 245 amp draw: 22.5/22.5.
Has Aprilair 600A humidifier installed in December 2016. ?Change water panel? light is on again. I showed customer how to reset. Also, I found flow control orifice mostly blocked from calcium flakes buildup. I brushed out calcium. Home has very high amount of calcium in water! Had chunks of calcium on the floor drain cover! Heavy calcium is building up on water panel.
Clean and check
Second floor system: Customer explained thermostat stuck on in heat mode due to low batteries. Second floor got very hot. I checked operation of furnace and check heat exchanger integrity. All OK. Temperature rise: 67 . Supply: 136 . Return: 69 . I replaced thermostat to prevent from happening again.
Cleaned & checked 2 condensing gas furnaces. Inspected heat exchanger & flue venting. cleaned burners & flame sensors. Checked voltage & amp draw of motors. Test capacitors. Replaced air filters. Rust in the main floor furnace is due to a pressure imbalance of basement, causing humid air to enter fresh air pipe during the summer, condensing in pipe and running into furnace. basement has a large volume of return-air that is taken from the basement through return-air grills in Trunkline of ducts. Customer plans to keep basement door open as temporary solution for this problem.
Serviced heating system and humidifier
Midseason check. Checked air cleaner medias. Tested furnaces’ operation. Check humidifier operation. Checked/set hum(cont) flow. RH33%. Checked condenser coils. Test capacitors. Checked drains.
